11 More Artists Shortlisted to Participate in Singapore Biennale 2016
11 artists from Southeast, South, and East Asia have been added to the lineup for the Singapore Biennale 2016 (SB2016), organized by the Singapore Art Museum and the National Arts Council. The biennale will run from October 27, 2016 through February 26, 2017, with the Singapore Art Museum as its core location.
The newly-shortlisted artists include Ade Darmawan, Hemali Bhuta, Bui Cong Khanh, Chia Chuyia, Deng Guoyuan, and Patricia Eustaquio, to name a few. The artists will showcase either existing works, which have been selected based on their resonance with the theme “An Atlas of Mirrors,” or works commissioned exclusively for the biennale.
These 11 artists join over 50 more talents, most of whom were announced early this year, selected by SB2016 Creative Director Dr Susie Lingham, alongside SAM curators Tan Siuli, Joyce Toh, Louis Ho, Andrea Fam, and John Tun. Some of the artists chosen in January 2016 are Ahmad Fuad Osman from Malaysia, Martha Atienza from the Philippines, and Rathin Barman from India.
