Contemporary ceramic gives artists a lot of possibilities. Works come in the forms of fine ceramics, sculpture, or even cross- disciplinary objects. Contemporary ceramic is no longer just design, techniques, or craftsmanship, but also works that are injected with the ideas, contents, and elements of our era.
About the speaker:
Johnson Tsang combines realist sculptural techniques with surrealist imagination. In 2002, Tsang started to find a way to represent splashes with ceramics. He created the Yuanyang series, which were then collected by the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Yingge Ceramics Museum of Taiwan. In 2011 and 2012, Tsang’s works, “Bowls of Fantasy” and “Splash of Wonder,” were the first Chinese artist awarded both the Special Prize of Korea Gyeonggi International Ceramix Biennale 2011 International Competition and Grand Prize of 2012 Taiwan International Ceramics Biennale respectively.
